Penn State Schreyer Honors College

SHO TIME

2013 Summer Reading Program

Welcome to the 15th Annual Summer Reading Program offered by the Schreyer Honors College. Each year a literary committee of Schreyer Scholars reviews nominated titles, discusses the top choices, and recommends a slate of books for selection. During orientation in August, SHO TIME mentors moderate small group book discussions of the selected titles.

Book Selections
  • The Travels of a T-shirt in the Global Economy by Pietra Rivoli
  • Abundance: The Future is Better Than You Think by Peter Diamandis and Stephen Kotler

All incoming Scholars are expected to read one of these two books in addition to the required "Penn State Reads" book, Beautiful Souls by Eyal Press.

During your visit to New Student Orientation, you will receive a free copy of Beautiful Souls. You are required to obtain your own copy of one of the two required SHC summer books.

Learn more and register your selection by Monday, July 1, 2013.

Purpose

  • To encourage you to read and discuss issues that contribute to broad intellectual development, and
  • To foster intellectual ties through discussion with faculty members, other students, and SHC staff.
