Penn State Schreyer Honors College

Visit the SHC

Here is an overview of how you can learn more about the Schreyer Honors College:

Scholars Day (was held October 5, 2009)

Designed for high school seniors, Scholars Day is an opportunity to take a close look at the Schreyer Honors College and a specific college at Penn State that matches your academic and career aspirations. You'll get an overview of the SHC, meet our staff and students, tour the central part of campus, and visit another college during your day at University Park.

Individual informational meetings (year-round)

High school juniors or seniors planning to visit Penn State's University Park campus are invited to meet with a member of the Schreyer Honors College's admissions team during their stay. The SHC does not offer interviews as part of the evaluation process, but we look forward to explaining our unique honors offerings and answering your questions. We offer information sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 3:30 PM, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 AM. To attend an informational meeting, please call our office at (814) 865-2060.

Receptions for admitted students (March-April)

For students offered admission to the Schreyer Honors College for the upcoming fall, the SHC holds receptions and information sessions from early March to late April, in advance of the May 1 decision deadline. These events are usually held from 3:00-5:00 p.m., but visiting students may also stay overnight in Scholars housing (Atherton/Simmons Halls), attend honors classes, and arrange individual visits with students and faculty. The offer packets mailed to admitted students in February contain detailed information about the spring sessions.

Spring Honors Preview (April 17, 2010)

Want to take a closer look at the Schreyer Honors College? The SHC hosts a Spring Honors Preview open house for high school juniors and their families at Penn State's University Park campus. You'll meet current Schreyer Scholars and SHC staff, and get an inside look at how a prestigious honors program fits right into Penn State.

Spend a Summer Day (late July/early August 2010)

Spend a Summer Day is the main summer visitation event for prospective Penn State students, and all academic units (including the SHC) have 50-minute presentations each morning and afternoon, as part of the full-day program. Plan on attending one of our information sessions during your visit.
