Schreyer Honors College recognizes outstanding alumni

Alumni AwardJohn Woerner '91 Bus, president of insurance and Chief Strategy Officer for Ameriprise Financial, and Dr. Stephanie M. Hulina '92 Lib, founder and president of GDA Corp., received the Schreyer Honors College's 2008 Outstanding Scholar Alumni Awards during an awards ceremony held Thursday (September 25) at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. Woerner and Hulina graduated from Penn State with honors as University Scholars. The University Scholars Program provided the foundation for what became the Schreyer Honors College in 1997.

I have very fond memories of my time at Penn State and with what was then the Scholars Program," Hulina said upon receiving the 2008 Outstanding Scholar Alumna Award during the ceremony. "It really helped me to focus my interests to be able to pursue things in a smaller academic environment (and) inspired me to go on to do my graduate education."

Woerner echoed Hulina's sentiments when he was presented with the 2008 Outstanding Scholar Alumnus Award. He said that when he talks to prospective Penn State students he tells them that the Schreyer Honors College represents "a truly unique combination of the honors experience with the vast resources and support of a Big 10 university."
