Schreyer medals ceremony leads off commencment exercises

The Schreyer Honors College awarded Scholars Medals to more than 40 graduating students during the college’s Medals Ceremony held Friday (December 19) at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. The ceremony was held the night before Penn State’s fall commencement exercises on the University Park campus.
Penn State President Graham B. Spanier presented the medals to the graduating Scholars. Dr. Christian M. M. Brady, dean of the Schreyer Honors College, told the Scholars that as they prepare to graduate with honors from Penn State their next step is to live a life of honor.
Achievements among the graduating Scholars include:
- 76% of the graduating class earned a grade point average of 3.80 or higher
- 98% have a GPA of 3.50 or higher
- 11 earned degrees in two majors
- 1 successfully completed degrees in three majors
- 33% of the class members studied abroad
- 16 countries, including China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Iceland, Jordan, South Africa, and Tanzania, were listed as study abroad destinations
- attaining leadership positions (officer or chair positions) in more than 20 Penn State clubs and organizations
Five of the graduating Scholars were selected to represent their respective academic college as student marshals during Saturday’s commencement exercises.

The student marshals include:
- Dhaval Ramesh Bhalodia of Conyngham, representing the College of Engineering
- Douglas Burke of Wynnewood, representing the Smeal College of Business
- Chelsea E. Cooper of Doylestown, representing the College of the Liberal Arts
- Lauren DeMoss of Mohnton, representing the College of Arts & Architecture
- Jesse Todd Zoll of Ephrata, representing the College of Engineering
In addition to the University Park event, five Schreyer Scholars were recognized at graduation ceremonies being held at Penn State Abington and Penn State Behrend.
