Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

The National Science Foundation (NSF) funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program. An REU Site consists of a group of approximately ten undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution.

Financial Support for Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate Discovery Summer Grants
The Office of Undergraduate Education has created the Undergraduate Discovery Summer Grants program to help students take advantage of Penn State's research environment. The purpose of these grants is to promote faculty/undergraduate collaboration as students engage in original research, scholarship, and creative work during the summer under the direct supervision of a faculty member.

Conference Travel Support
Penn State undergraduates who are presenting the results of their research or creative work at national or regional professional conferences may request financial support to defray the costs of attending the conference.

SHC Funding for Internships, Research, and Study Abroad

Phi Beta Kappa Research Grants
Apply for a $500 research grant to support your honors thesis work.

Phi Beta Kappa Honors Thesis Prize
Apply for a $1,500 prize to be awarded to a meritorious research project completed in an eligible field by a Schreyer Scholar as his or her honors thesis.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants
Forty-five $1,000 grants are awarded each year. Questions may be directed to Rodney Hughes at rph144@psu.edu.

The Undergraduate Exhibition communicates and celebrates creative endeavors by undergraduate students from across the University. Undergraduate students from all Penn State campuses are invited to enter poster or performance presentations to showcase their work to a general audience.
