These funds directly support out-of-classroom opportunities, a vital part of the honors experience and integral to our mission. Each year, the College awards more than $500,000 in support to current Scholars for national and international travel, research experiences, and internships or co-ops. These funds can help with expenses, such as travel, lab fees, equipment, housing, and more.

Thrive as Scholars

Schreyer Scholars helping one another in LA 197: Foundations of Scholar Success

It's important to us that Scholars not only excel academically, but also thrive as individuals and members of our community during their time at Penn State. The Dr. Michele “Mitch” Kirsch Fund in Support of Health and Wellness Initiatives provides an important source of funding for programming and support around all the dimensions of wellness. From bringing in speakers and workshops around wellness to optimizing our physical spaces to connecting Scholars with existing campus resources, we recognize that wellness initiatives can take many forms. Another way we are helping Scholars thrive is through our New Scholar Experience. The goal of this program is to build on our SHO TIME orientation to enhance the experience of students entering the Penn State Schreyer Honors College by fostering a meaningful sense of community, identity, and belonging.

Financial Crisis

The Schreyer Honors College Emergency Fund Scholarship and the Parents and Family Fund are critical tools that allow the College to assist Scholars who require cost-of-attendance support for things like tuition, books, housing, transportation, and food when unexpected circumstances disrupt their intended financial plan. Through these funds the College can support Scholars in times of need and dozens of Schreyer Scholars turn to them each year for relief from financial challenges.

Scholar Need

Need-based scholarships and the Penn State Fund for the Schreyer Honors College allow the College to ensure your gift gets to where it is most needed. The Penn State Fund provides flexible funding to meet the current and future needs of the College and invest in areas that will have the most impact on Scholars and the longevity of the College. The Schreyer Family Honors Scholarship and the Dean Peggy A. Johnson Educational Equity Honors Scholarship are both need-based scholarships available to Scholars that enter the College after their first year at Penn State and Scholars who contribute to the diversity of the College, respectively.

Other Ways to Give

Annually Funded Scholarships

These are non-endowed scholarships given to students on an annual basis and must be funded at a minimum of $2,500 per year for five consecutive years, making a minimum gift of $12,500.

Endowed Funds

Endowment donations are invested by the University and a portion of the annual income from the investment is used to fund the endowment's intended purpose, which is specified by the donor in perpetuity. The amount of annual income depends on the value of the endowment. Endowments are an excellent way to permanently honor your family, a mentor, or a loved one. Once you have created an endowment, your gift becomes part of Penn State's heritage and tradition.

Corporate Matching

Corporate matching programs can expand the impact of your philanthropic gift. Explore employers who have corporate matching programs. Even if you don't see your employer listed, ask them about the possibility.

Schreyer Scholar Matt Tracey

My family has always loved Penn State and to be able to take this love along with the fact that Penn State is a top research university is amazing. This combined with fact that Schreyer has a culture of independent thinking and an emphasis on a global perspective allows me to see my education as being much bigger than me.
