Penn State Cooking Classic Season 2: "Sweet Southern Comfort"

  • Wednesday, January 19, 2022
  • 7:00 PM- 8:00 PM
  • Zoom
Back for Season 2 is the Penn State Cooking Classic, a collaborative four-week cooking event brought to you by Penn State Colleges and Campuses Alumni Societies, a proud partner of the Penn State Alumni Association. This year, join us Wednesdays at 7 p.m. for hour-long Southern cuisine recipes and thematic nightcaps during Cocktail Corner, as we tap into the talents across our Penn State community.

The Cooking Classic is an event series in support of Lions Pantries across the Commonwealth. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to make a gift in support of students facing food insecurity across Penn State. We hope that you will consider paying it forward to support Penn State students in need during an unprecedented time. Every $5 gift provides 20 or more meals—or may be used to help stock pantries with other basic need items like toiletries and paper products.

On Wednesday, January 19, we will kick our series off with “Sweet Southern Comfort.” Keshia Davis '99 (Smeal) will share a family recipe of her Southern Sweet Potato Pie. You butter believe it will melt in your mouth and put the finishing touches on any meal. Davis grew up in her aunt’s bakery and has been helping it grow and expand in the Philadelphia area since 1990. Denise's Delicacies is a full-service bakery serving buttery pastries, pies, breads and the most delicious donuts you have ever eaten. Our evening’s Cocktail Corner will feature Brandon Wagner ’09 (IST) of Big Spring Spirits.

Thank you to our collaborators: College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Arts & Architecture, College of Education, College of Information Sciences and Technology, Penn State Abington, Penn State Altoona, Penn State Behrend, Penn State Harrisburg, Penn State Schuylkill, Penn State World Campus, Schreyer Honors College, and Smeal College of Business. These events are open to all Penn State alumni and friends through a partnership with the Penn State Alumni Association.

Register here for any or all Season 2 sessions!

Schreyer offers so many unique experiences and for me, a pre-med student, it was touring Weill Cornell Medicine. It made me feel like no matter what I wanted to do — no matter what my ambitions were — Schreyer found a way to make them possible by giving me the support and foundation and outlet to pursue them.
