Penn State Cooking Classic Season 2: "Anything but Medi-okra: Southern Creole Gumbo"

  • Wednesday, February 9, 2022
  • 7:00 PM- 8:00 PM
  • Zoom
Back for Season 2 is the Penn State Cooking Classic, a collaborative four-week cooking event brought to you by Penn State Colleges and Campuses Alumni Societies, a proud partner of the Penn State Alumni Association. This year, join us Wednesdays at 7 p.m. for hour-long Southern cuisine recipes and thematic nightcaps during Cocktail Corner, as we tap into the talents across our Penn State community.

The Cooking Classic is an event series in support of Lions Pantries across the Commonwealth. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to make a gift in support of students facing food insecurity across Penn State. We hope that you will consider paying it forward to support Penn State students in need during an unprecedented time. Every $5 gift provides 20 or more meals—or may be used to help stock pantries with other basic need items like toiletries and paper products.

On Wednesday, February 9, our season 2 series of Cooking Classic will wrap up with the main event that is “Anything but Medi-okra: Southern Creole Gumbo.” Join New Orleans native and Penn State alumna Dr. Jhan Doughty '94g, '01g (Education) who will temp your tastebuds with this delicious and hearty main meal of seafood gumbo. Holla Spirits will spice things up in our final Cocktail Corner with a jalapeno vodka cocktail. .

Thank you to our collaborators: College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Arts & Architecture, College of Education, College of Information Sciences and Technology, Penn State Abington, Penn State Altoona, Penn State Behrend, Penn State Harrisburg, Penn State Schuylkill, Penn State World Campus, Schreyer Honors College, and Smeal College of Business. Schreyer Scholar John Barton

I decided to enroll in the Schreyer Honors College as I needed the atmosphere. In a big campus like Penn State, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and like just another face in the crowd, so it was important to me to find a setting where I could stand out. The Honors College has allowed me to make many close friends, very quickly, who challenge me to become the best version of myself.
