Fall Movie Night with the Dean Features "Hidden Figures"

  • Wednesday, October 12, 2022
  • 6:30 PM- 8:30 PM
  • State Theatre, Downtown

Join Dean Mather, Schreyer Honors College staff and your friends for a night at the theatre. The Schreyer Honors College is hosting a special and exclusive showing of "Hidden Figures", a film adapted from a non-fiction book of the same name, written by Margot Lee Shetterly. It is based on a true story. Shetterly grew up in Hampton, Virginia, where the story takes place, and her father worked as an atmospheric scientist at NASA. This plot introduces us to four female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program.

We invite all scholars to come out, sit back, relax, and enjoy some freshly popped popcorn and an inspirational story of courage. Reserve your seat today using the link below. No ticket required and we will have special Schreyer Honors College 25th anniversary t-shirts available, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration is appreciated but not required.

I think being in the Schreyer Honors College definitely helped me have a leg up in finding research opportunities and having professors confident in my ability to take on the responsibility of research. I’m working with stem cells and regenerative medicine. I was awarded an Erickson Discovery Grant this past summer and then the College gave me a summer grant to work on my research.
