This annual lecture has been endowed by Schreyer Scholar alumni and friends to keep alive the legacy of University Scholar Mark Luchinsky whose life celebrated intellectual honesty, personal integrity and joy in learning. Through this lecture series, the community gathers to honor his memory through support of a speaker who exemplifies and shares similar characteristics.
This year we are honored to have Director of Penn State’s Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences and Willaman Professor of Biology, Dr. Peter Hudson as our guest lecturer. Dr. Hudson is also an adjunct professor at the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology in Tanzania. He has worked to make Penn State a leader in infectious disease, genomics, metabolomics, and plant biology. He championed the development of a new global health laboratory to solve pressing disease issues of the day that threaten global health security.
Dr. Hudson has published more than 200 scientific papers and four books on the ecology of infectious disease. He has also traveled around the world to work with partners in India, Africa, and South and Central America. He lives and operates his own nature reserve and has a passion for wildlife photography.
