Under dynamic events such as an earthquake, blasting, or quick loading, soil can liquefy or lose its strength or stiffness. The liquefied soil could trigger impoundment to fail, causing significant environmental damage and loss of lives.

Dr. Xiao will conduct a large-scale shake table test to evaluate the liquefaction potential of soil. Scholars will witness the test and learn about modern instrumentation and technologies for data recording and earthquake engineering.

Scholars will meet outside of Atherton Hall and be provided transportation to and from the lab. Dinner will be served at the lab.

My thesis is a creative thesis. I'm writing a feature-length screenplay for a movie. As a film major, having a finished screenplay that you can take to different companies is really a strong selling point that most people don't have coming out of college.
