Further, receiving the Political Science Best Thesis Award affirmed the depth of that work and strengthened my confidence as a scholar. Studying abroad in Barcelona broadened my understanding of international political economy by allowing me to examine governance and economic systems in a lived, global context. At the same time, pursuing the Holocaust and Genocide Studies certificate deepened my engagement with moral philosophy, historical accountability, and human rights. Together, these experiences diversified my academic expertise and pushed me to move beyond a single disciplinary lens. They allowed me to apply knowledge across political science, history, ethics, and law, ultimately helping me get the most out of my undergraduate education. One simple afternoon of volunteering and learning about period poverty introduced me to Days for Girls, the global nonprofit where I started my career. Together with other Schreyer scholars, I started a chapter at Penn State that we grew from an idea to a student organization overseeing thousands of dollars of fundraising and global period product distributions. We sent menstrual care kits everywhere from local food pantries in State College to domestic violence shelters in North Carolina to displaced refugees in Jordan. I even ended up writing my thesis about our program to distribute menstrual cups on college campuses. Safe to say that when I became a data science major, I didn't expect to end up working in advocacy for a nonprofit - but I'm so glad that I did!
