Building a Global Perspective
Each year Scholars visit 40+ countries for classes, service, research, and internships. From studying democracy in Ireland to studying the climate in New Zealand, you can find an experience that meets your interests and goals.
Scholars have access to study abroad opportunities across Penn State; however, Schreyer has several signature programs that provide honors-level enrichment.
Why Study Abroad?
Global experiences are valuable no matter your field of study or career path. Visiting another country and immersing yourself in a new culture builds interpersonal skills, humility, and respect for human differences.
Students who study abroad need to navigate language barriers and logistics, such as traveling in an unfamiliar place, which builds confidence. All of these skills are impactful in future careers, especially if you will be working for any company that crosses borders.
Fitting Your Schedule & Budget
Study abroad takes many forms and can fit into most student schedules, with options to travel for as little as two weeks or as much as a full semester.
The best part of studying abroad in college is that Schreyer will help fund your travel! In addition to the significant subsidies the Honors College offers for our signature travel programs, our travel grants provide funding for Scholars pursuing experiences abroad through Penn State and other providers. Each year, we spend more than $250,000 supporting Scholars in their international pursuits.
